le sketchbook evaluation
I chose to highlight this page because it is the cleanest picture I have so far. The materials I used are sharpies and watercolor. My page is about the fact that a person can hold a writing utensil and make marks on a page without even thinking about it. This page stands out because it is purely ink and actually took the longest to create. I applied my knowledge of color coordination and organization to finish this piece. I tried using simple straight lines and small geometric circles. I used the stacking technique that I like to refer back to when I get stuck on a piece. I think this page communicates industrialism and pollution to me and simplicity and filth to others...
I am very proud of this sketchbook. I took me over eight hours to complete mainly because I was using very fine tip Sharpies and a gel tip pen. At first, it as a collage of random shapes that I didn't expect to turn into anything, but then I noticed that I was drawing shapes of ideas that I love. For example, the fez is from Doctor Who, the glasses are mine, and the Roman numeral three is my favorite number. The reason for the many colors is only because I thought that the page would look bland if I had colored it in any other way. It took longer than I expected, but I am happy with how it turned out.
le semester projects
My poster is unique and clearly individual to me because I am the only one that would use pop culture cartoon characters in such a simple manner. Mine only consists of three colors while my peers' posters consists of many more colors and shades and tints. I am starting to realize that I prefer to do simple pieces with as few colors as possible. I prefer to see the shapes of the characters as they were originally drawn and not obscured by many colors. Another thing I learned from this project is that a piece does not need a lot of layers in order to look good. Simplicity is often the best way to go.
